Some countries are considering whether, under the current climate, parts and factors from China can be trusted. In particular, some are curious to know if larger items, such as wind turbines could be compromised. Inasmuch as this may seem like paranoia, it’s a worthwhile question.
There appears to be four primary systems turbines can be run on, essentially for statistics, measurement, etc, and there are sundry additional systems. These systems do not necessarily lend themselves to obvious and remote influence initially, yet there is scope to utilise them otherwise.
Wind turbines are typically connected in parallel to the electrical grid, not in series or relay, meaning any interruption should be minimal to the efficiency of the system. To sabotage this would seem odd, as it is a complimentary service, not a necessary one, such as energy generated directly for the main grid. To affect the complimentary system to sabotage the grid would be incredibly complex and not be guaranteed to work.
However, although we may discount this as a paranoid perculiarity, but there is actually something that can be gleaned from this research, which was a curious outcome.
Rows of wind turbines, or farms, could be created for a dual purpose for the installer/company to not only be a turbine farm, but part of a radiotelescope. There more than likely will be resultant auditory interference as a result of carrying a current, but if this auditory is cancelled or edited, information has the potential to be carried to the host of the farm. The use of wind farms as radiotelescopes has not, as far as I’m aware, been considered before, but could be used as a secondary system, should another ‘information system’ be compromised. Some could be used as sonar or radar. This could be useful as a back up if a satellite system fails for some reason.
The development of a second tier to enhance the congruence of information in our current world predicament, would be a boone and I believe relatively inexpensive to render to existing complexes.
In regards to China, I believe that there is no immediate threat, for they also make/supply the resources for the drones and other equipment for the Ukraine. Given recent rises in tariffs and levies, I doubt the Chinese would attack Europe. Their’s is more of an observing eye, wanting to know, yet hesitant to act unless provoked. They have previously been seen to have ‘wanted to help’ since after the second World War, thus formed their own technologies to a staggering degree. The point I make is that I do not consider China to be a clear threat to peace in Europe. If anything, they’d probably help more, but political allegiances and the rest mean they are somewhat hindered in knowing what to do, unless asked, maybe. Their need to gain insight into other cultures and what is going on, is proving curious. Obviously there’s the need to protect Chinese interests, but the curiosity they display is very intriguing.
All that being said, wind farms may prove to be very useful for more than just complimentary energy.
